Easy & Fun DIY Puppets Kid-Can-Do!

LT saw some really cool horsey marionettes at a street fair not long ago. They were neat, I’ll admit, but not 17.99 neat!

So of course I hit Pinterest and found this awesome pin…

However, that looked like an awful lot of prep work … with the cutting and the gluing and so on and so on. Not just prep work but time and LT’s got a pretty short attention span. So I made a little bit of a shorter version and, of course, added a couple of tweaks of my own.

Note: This  Kid-Can-Do still has a lot of mom-prep, but generally speaking this is a great project for kids to show off their creativity while also utilizing fine-motor skills!

You need: A couple of paper towel or toilet paper rolls, a thick needle, string or something similar for the legs and neck,  glue beads buttons, sharpies, 2 popsicle sticks and packing tape.

Poke Holes in the bottom of the toilet paper roll for the string legs.

Poke One hole for the neck string

Cut a small portion (of another toilet paper roll) for the head.

Lace the strings through the holes.

String the legs with beads. I used buttons on the feet of the ‘giraffe’ and it was adorable!

Add beads to the neck string and string the head.

Add a length of string at the opposite end of the neck string.

Glue Popsicle sticks into an ‘X’.  Tape the back string and head string to each end of one stick.

Make another and have a show! We had a happy cat and angry French giraffe. It was a silly and fun afternoon!

Please feel free to share your puppet photos in the comments, I’d love to see them – Missy
